Protect Highlight Grab During Gray Coverage

If you have blonde highlights and need regular gray root touch-ups, you may notice that your existing highlights can become darker during the rinsing process.

There is no way to prevent this completely, especially on porous blonde hair, but there are a few techniques that can help.

My Salon Technique

After I finish applying the root color and while the gray coverage is processing, I apply either:

✨ Hydrate or  Olaplex 2 Conditioner to the previously highlighted hair

or

✨ A gloss to the previously highlighted hair

This helps create a protective barrier and can reduce how much color is absorbed by the blonde highlights during rinsing.

Will It Prevent Color Grab Completely?

No.

Because blonde hair is more porous, some color transfer during rinsing is normal. However, this technique can help keep highlights brighter and minimize unwanted darkening.

AppleStylist Tip

The healthier the blonde hair, the less likely it is to grab excess color you could choose Hydreate conditioner. If the clients hair is damaged   Olaplex 2 .  Proper maintenance all help blonde hair behave more predictably.
