The Little Hair Color Secret I Use Before Every Appointment
As hairstylists, we are always learning.
One of my favorite salon tips didn’t come from a class, a beauty show, or a product company. It came from one of my clients.
Years ago, I noticed that one of my clients had a healthy-looking, full hairline. She told me she regularly applied organic cold-pressed castor oil around her hairline and had been doing so for quite some time.
Seeing her results made me curious.
So I decided to try it myself.
Whenever I’m in the mood, I apply a small amount of organic cold-pressed castor oil around my hairline. I gently smooth the fine hairs forward and leave the oil on overnight.
Over time, I felt my hairline looked healthier and fuller too. Was it the castor oil? I can’t say for certain, but I liked what I saw enough to continue using it.
Today, before many color services, I apply a light layer of organic cold-pressed castor oil around the hairline.
One reason is that it helps create a protective barrier between the skin and hair color, making cleanup easier after the service.
Another reason is that it adds a little extra moisture to an area that can often become dry, especially here in California.
Most clients never notice this step, but I believe great service is often found in the small details.
Beautiful hair isn’t only about the color formula, the haircut, or the finished style. It’s also about the care that happens behind the scenes.
I learned this simple tip from a client.
I tried it myself.
Now it’s one of the little touches I enjoy sharing with others.
As hairstylists, we share knowledge with our clients every day. But sometimes our clients teach us something valuable too.
After all, some of our best teachers are sitting right in our salon chairs.
